That fic does not have the love it deserves on ffnet .. please show her some love and be sure to tell her Slice sent ya ;)
We had the opportunity to sit down with Owenic,
and get the 411 on Miss October ...
Here's the interview....
Q: How were you originally introduced into the Twilight fandom?
A: Back in 2009, I was
scrolling through newmoon.org, feeding my Twilight addiction, and on one of the
discussion boards someone mentioned Dark Side of the Moon as their favourite
fanfic – and I was like WTF is fanfic?? One Google search
later… and my life has never been the same.
Q: How did you decide on your fan fiction penname?
A: I found
twilighted.net first and had to log in to read, so I just signed up as Owenic.
It’s my hubs and my email address (our names; I’m the Nic half, btw) so I
just used that, not realizing it was supposed to be a pen name. I really
had no idea about the whole fanfiction world at that stage… But now,
given the opportunity to choose something twilight related, I’m not sure I
would.
Q: Who are your top 5 favorite Fan Fiction authors?
A: Oh, jeez… Can I just pick
two? In no particular order: Conversed & Touchstone 67.
Both have vastly different writing styles, and when they post, I drop
everything to read. If either one of them re-wrote the phonebook, I swear
I’d read it.
Q: What is your all time, number one, absolute favorite fic? Why?
A: Twinned and its
sequel 17 Men, by Conversed.
That Jasper just spoke
to me in a way that no other character ever has. He gave me shivers,
heart palpitations and so, so many breathless OMG moments. He’s a
character that will stay with me for a long time.
Q: How did you decide that you wanted to write Fan Fiction?
A: I didn’t ever decide,
really. I wrote my very first Twilight fiction, Between Heaven and Hell,
before I even knew about fanfiction. I had no idea there was even a place
where I could submit my writing of other people’s characters. I wrote
BH&H because I wanted to explore what Edward went through during Bella’s
transformation – I hated that SM left those two days so untouched – so I just
wrote what I thought might have happened. And when I found fanfic, I
thought “OMG, I could post that.”
Q: You have written
quite a few great stories, which one in particular, are you most proud of? Why?
A: Oh, jeez…that’s like
asking me to choose between my kids. I love them all for different
reasons. But if I HAD to choose, it’d probably be January. It was a
year of my life; I put a LOT into that fic. It’s a shame it’s not as
popular on ff.net compared to twilighted.net. I’ve not been that invested
in any other story I’ve written since; whether it’s because it was my first
full fic, or if because it was so in depth, I’m not sure. I am totally in
love with Sixty Five Hours at the moment because it’s what I’m doing right now,
but January was my baby.
Q: January is one of my all time favorite fics, I recommend it
frequently, it was excellent. What was your inspiration behind that story? What
made you want to write it?
A: Aw, thank you
so much! I read the entire Twilight saga 16 times (pre fanfiction) but
was never happy with the ending. I thought it was rushed, and I wanted to
see what the Cullen’s were like happy; without the stress of the dramas and
never-ending threats to their way of life. And I thought Edward owed Jacob a
thank you. It was odd that I painted Jacob in such a favourable light, because
I never liked him.
When I started writing
January, I had no idea how it would take on a life of its own. Originally
it was only going to be a few chapters; up until the celebratory party where
Edward says thank you to Jacob – that’s all it was ever supposed to be.
LOL Yeah, and 270K words later…
Q: I really enjoyed your interviews at the ends of the January
chapters, they were hilarious! How did they find their way into the story?
A: I did try (but
kinda failed) to keep the characters as canon as possible, so having the
interviews at the end of some of the chapters was a way for me to play with
these characters OOC. Or, at the very least, have some fun with
them without it interfering with the plot of the story. Those interviews
were SO MUCH fun. My husband was about ready to have me committed because
I’d be sitting at my laptop, unable to type properly because I was laughing so
much.
Q: We all love your E/J fics, can’t get enough of those boys. How
did you get into writing slash fics?
A: Oh, boy.
I’d stumbled into slash (Over the Top by Starfish442 was my first) and I
had no idea how hot it was. Soon enough, the only fics I was reading were
slash, so it was just a natural leap for me. Unfortunately, I don’t
have much reading time these days, so if/when I do read, it’s only ever slash.
I think all readers go through stages/phases - and if they write, I think
where they’re up to in their fanfic cycle is reflected in their writing.
I started out reading canon, then went to AU, then to AH and then slash;
and that’s how my writing has progressed too.
Q: You have written both Edward/Bella fics, as well as
Edward/Jasper fics, which do you prefer to write? Why?
A: Edward and Jasper.
I loved writing B&E
when I was reading B&E fics, but now I’ve moved on. I can’t even read
E&B – it’s just not for me anymore. I was only wondering the
other day who my next fixation might be on, but as for right now, I’m very happy
with Jasper and Edward.
Q: How did you come up with your plot and storyline for Sixty Five
Hours?
A: It was originally
only going to be a oneshot for the SlashBackSlash3.0 contest, but I went over
the word limit. I had never planned for it to be so in depth; I was going
for pure porn without plot. I just wanted to write slashy smut, so
I thought giving them a deadline/timeframe of just sixty five hours would make
it short, but focusing their entire time together on condoms and sex toys would
make it fun. I went over the word limit, so then I went back and added plot.
I started writing it without giving much thought to the fact I know
next to nothing about advertising – because truly, it was never supposed to be
what it is.
The response to
that story is very humbling.
Maybe there’s a little
bit of Brian Kinney in there (I always wanted to write a QaF Brian Kinney as
Edward Cullen fic) but in Sixty Five Hours, it’s Jasper who takes on that role.
Mostly it’s just my
perverted brain who likes to make pretty boys do dirty things.
Q: Out of all the Edwards you have created, which is your
personal favorite? Why?
A: Oh jeez. I love
them all for different reasons. I loved January’s Edward because he was my
first real character which I developed and explored. I loved Chasing Fire’s
Edward because of the whole Daddyward thing. I loved Truly Madly Deeply’s
Edward because he never once doubted Jasper’s love for him. I loved
If This Is Love’s Edward because of his strength and how he showed a very
broken Bella she was worthy. I loved Learning to Feel’s Edward for the
way he finally accepted himself. I loved Best of Both World’s Edward for his
ability to love without compromise. And I love Sixty Five Hours’ Edward
because he’s so confident yet so completely vulnerable at the same time, not
including the whole sock thing. *giggles*
All
of my Edward’s are lovable, good guys. I just can’t write a not-likable
Edward.
Q: If you were given the opportunity, to present your own stories
to Rob Pattinson or Jackson Rathbone, which one would you give them to read?
Why?
A: You presume I would
still have the ability to speak coherently and not be a puddle of jibbering
idiot… *snort* Um, I’d probably give Rob January; a few people have told
me they think the highly anticipated scenes in Breaking Dawn, where Edward is
at the piano with Renesmee, were taken straight from January. LOL I
highly doubt that, but it’s a nice thought. And I’d give Jackson Sixty
Five Hours, because it’s the only Jasper pov I’ve done in its entirety.
Q: Writers often look up to the styles of others, before finding
their individuality. Who has been an inspiration to you and your
writing? Why?
A: Ooooh, tough
question… I’m not sure, to be honest. I don’t know if I’m inspired, as
such…I’m quite often left in awe of some fanfic writers – their talent for
writing such beautiful words, and ability to have characters which are so
different from the norm, yet they never falter in keeping them in character.
I read some fics and wish I had the capability of the author.
I’m not sure if that’s
inspiration or just jealousy. *gigglesnort*
Q: Are there any other pairings or genres of twi-fic that
you would be interested in writing?
A: I do have a little
vamp-slash plot in mind. Or maybe even a Carlisle D/s fic with Edward and
Jasper, but nothing epically long. Oh, and then there’s that whole Edward as
Brian Kinney, Jasper as his Sunshine, Queer as Folk style twi-fic that I keep
dreaming about writing.
My RL has severely cut
into my fanfic time of late, and I just can’t commit to writing long stories.
Q: Who are your go-to people when you need advice or help with
your writing?
A: My beta, A
Jasper for Me. Good Lord, you should see the shit she has to fix
for me. I’m not even kidding. I have the ability to put commas in
places that would dumbfound most people. And I also need some Australianisms
turned into Americanisms. I do have one or two other people I could ask a
thing or two, but for the majority I just bang my head on my desk all by
myself.
Although I’ve been
writing now for some years, I’ve only very recently just joined the facebook
and twitter side of fanfic. In hindsight I can see now that I’ve spent
the last three years quite removed from the whole fanfic world.
Q: Are there any future projects you may have lined up, that you
would like to tell us about?
A: I do have
another fic called His Grandfather’s Watch, which was also going to be a
oneshot for SBS3.0, but it went over the word limit too. It is also
slash E&J, and won’t be any where near as long as Sixty Five Hours. I
still haven’t decided if it will be a multi-chap or left as a oneshot, but it’s
up for posting next. And then I might let the vamp-slash plot
bunnies out to play.
I
also have an original fic, which I’ve put on the backburner while I’ve played
in the fanfic world. I’d like to finish that someday...but those
delicious little fanfiction plot bunnies are just too much damn fun.
Can
I just add that this has been my very first author interview, and I was super
excited to have been asked. Thanks so much, guys!
